As we prepare to celebrate America’s birthday this Fourth of July, the entire staff at nextSource pauses to reflect on the all the ways in which the American workforce has been instrumental in building this great nation. More than any other factor, American labor has been the driving force for economic development, innovation, and achievement emulated by economies across the globe. On this Fourth of July, we want to shine a light on one of the key elements which continues to support the growth of the American economic engine—diversity.

Here in the United States, a country built by the peaceful and collaborative efforts of a population comprised of immigrants from all over the world, diversity has been and continues to be the strength behind our collective achievements as a society. People from all nations and all walks of life have, since the beginning of this American experiment, been drawn to our shores for the unrivaled opportunity promised by our Constitution and social structure. Bringing with them, hopes, dreams, aspirations and the skills informed by the cultural and historical legacies of their national origins, these people built better lives for themselves, their children and each successive generation.

At its best, America embraces the differences between all cultures and backgrounds, synthesizing them into a collective that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. Teams of men and women from every continent worked hand in hand through the 19th and 20th Centuries to build our brilliant cities, bridges, roadways, schools, museums, libraries, parks and all the other infrastructure that made the USA the envy of the world.

In the 21st Century, brilliant minds from across the globe continue to bring to these shores, the backgrounds in science, technology, medicine, computers and education which contribute greatly to the incredible technological innovations that fuel today’s vibrant global community and economy. It is precisely this mixing of ideas, traditions, cultures, values and experiences that makes the United States such an amazing place to live and work. At nextSource, we never forget all those whose contributions—from the loftiest to the lowliest—to our national heritage and success.

Happy birthday, America, and may we always remember our national motto, E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One). Today, we pause to celebrate the diversity, strength and values of our nation and its workforce.
