Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Challenge

MIT was confronted with a problem of managing a temporary workforce for the university (MITemps) that was subject to significant seasonal fluctuations and included a large base of temporary workers with many different skill sets. Without dedicated resources or any type of automated system to facilitate the management of this workforce, they turned to other alternatives. MIT required a solution that could manage the contingent labor workforce, ensuring prompt payment through proper time reporting, reducing contractual liabilities, handling worker’s compensation and unemployment issues.

Solution

After evaluating several vendors, MIT elected to outsource the management of this diversified temporary workforce to nextSource. With the selection of nextSource, nextSource supplied a dedicated on-site resource, assigned a team of HR professionals to support the program, and deployed its Talent Acquisition Management Solution (TAMS) to facilitate the requisitioning, time reporting, invoicing and tracking for this workforce.

Benefits

  • Established a standard, centralized process for the engagement of their temporary workers for the MITemps Program
  • Web based system (TAMS) assisted in the engagement, tracking and management of MIT temporary workers
  • Migrated the on-boarding process for the temporary workers to nextSource together with all employer related responsibilities
  • Mitigated risks associated with the engagement of their temporary workforce
  • Gained access to extensive reporting for all temporary workers in their MITemps program
